Thanksgiving Week

Just a half day of school this week before all the kids go home for the holiday break.  I wish all of our students and their families a happy and safe holiday!!

On Monday, I will present my students with choices for books to begin reading in literature circles upon their return from the break.  These will include Redwall by Brian Jacques, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, Bearstone by Will Hobbs, Castle in the Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop, and Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli.  Each of these novels offers a different look at conflict and how it is woven to create the plot of a story.  Students will use a secret ballot to tell me their first three choices of books.  I will use their choices as a starting point to group them into literature cirlces by interest and skill development needed.  We will begin working in our groups the week of November 30th.

Book shares are due on Friday, November 30th!  I hope the students will work on them over the holiday break if they have time.  This is our third one for the year.  They have been beautifully done so far, and I'm sure they will continue to wow me.

My social studies students all presented their pharaoh projects on Friday.  They all did a great job.  We will continue to study ancient Eygpt for a few more weeks.

I look forward to meeting with parents on Monday and Tuesday for our annual parent/teacher conferences.  I hope to see many of you there!
