This week we are beginning our first large written assignment. Students will take what they have learned about narrative writing, vivid language, and story elements and write their own fictional narrative. To put a "spin" on the assignment, the kids will use story dials to find their setting, characters, and conflict for the story. They will then have to combine the wacky choices into a fanciful story. On Monday, we will brainstorm using graphic organizers. On Tuesday, we will begin our rough drafts which will be due on Thursday, along with their 2nd book shares of the quarter.
We won't have spelling this week because it's already going to be jam packed with our writing and book shares.
In social studies, we will begin an adventure touring ancient Eygpt. Our introduction will be looking at hieroglyphics and how the Eyptians used them to communicate. Students will create their own name plates using hieroglyphics.
