This week marks the beginning of our fall testing with the NECAPs starting on Tuesday. We've been working diligently in our classes and intervention periods to get all of our students ready for these important assessments. I am confident that my students are prepared and are going to ROCK the NECAPS!!
In reading this week, we'll focus our attention on reading Racing the Past and keeping track notes to reflect upon. Students created a character chart for the main character Ricky last week. This week we will watch as Ricky takes on not only the school bully, but his own internal conflicts and sets a goal for himself.
In language arts, we've been working on narrative writing. Students have been using "vivid verbs and adjectives" to tell it all about a memorable event in their lives. Last week, we began writing rough drafts and will keep this as a work in progress to revisit on our writing days. The theme for spelling this week will be spelling patterns with "other vowel sounds".
In social studies, we've been learning about ancient Mesopotamia. We'll be delving into the ruler Hammurabi and his Code of Laws. Students will part take in an activity where they will have to solve some of the issues Hammurabi faced. They will also write a letter to the editor of the Babylonian Times giving their personal opinions of Hammurabi's decisions.
Students will enjoy a long weekend for Columbus Day with Friday and Monday off. It will be a short, but busy week!!! Remember....
