Happy Labor Day Weekend!

What a fantastic 1st week of school!  I couldn't have asked for a better group of kids.  They are all fantastic and I'm excited to get to know them more as the year progresses.  I've also met many parents and all of you have been great to talk with and very supportive of your children and the school.  Thank you!

This week, my language arts classes spent some time talking about our summer reading book Freak the Mighty.  We focused on the characters and the conflicts in the story; both internal and external.  We also struggled through taking our first online quiz!!  I am happy to say that we finally have all students on board with an active account, login name and password.  Thank you for your patience as I try to teach them to use some of the technology available to us.  Although frustrating at times, the overall usage of the online system will be very, very useful and helpful as the students move up through the grades from here.

Next week, the students will choose a project to show me what they know about Freak and Max.  We'll work on them in class and then watch the movie The Mighty which was adapted from the novel.

In social studies, we have begun to talk about the six elements of geography.  I have explained to the kids how to set up an interactive notebook and we took notes for the first time on Thursday.  Next week, we will continue with our geography studies and I will assign a short project for them to complete at home.

Enjoy the long weekend!!
